Richard Louis Cherry, Sr., 86, of O’Fallon, IL, passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2021, at his home. He was born November 24, 1934, in Collinsville, IL. After serving in the United States Marines, Richard became a spray painter for General Motors in St. Louis, MO. Richard was a former coach for the Collinsville Jaycee Football and coached Khoury League baseball in Caseyville and Collinsville. He enjoyed singing and playing guitar in a band, and he was also a member of the United Auto Workers Union.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; Louis Ralph and Beulah Cherry (nee Sanders), one brother; Louis R. Cherry, Jr., four sisters; Eunice Benton, Pearl Geisely, Lois Dow, and Mary Haines, three uncles; Brodis Cherry, Bracy Cherry, and Alton Cherry. Richard is survived by his beloved wife, whom he married in Austin, MN on June 10, 1953; Lois Cherry (nee Moore), six children; Richard L. (Rebecca) Cherry, Jr. of Dupo, IL, Nickie (Bob) Taylor of Caseyville, IL, Vicki (Bob) Noel of O’Fallon, IL, Kenneth M. Cherry of Collinsville, IL, Dennis A. (Kristie) Cherry of Troy, IL, and Louis R. (Bobbie) Cherry of Collinsville, IL, six grandchildren; Sam Michael (Susan) Taylor, Sean Michael McClure, Maya Marie Cherry, Jenna Summer Cherry, Tyann Danette Cherry, and Erica Rochelle Cherry, five great-grandchildren; Sierra Rain Taylor, Dan McAndrews, Lilly Belle McAndrews, T.J. McAndrews, and Jaxon Michael Taylor, two step-grandchildren; Zack Farmer and Sean Hill, and several special friends; Jerry, Doug, Rich, Berry, Louis, Dominic, Randy, and all of his friends of Bill W.
