Richard Leland quot;Dickquot; King, 91 of Nokesville, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2017. He was born March 21, 1926 in Reading, PA and the family moved to Nokesville when he was two, residing on the home place quot;Centerview Farmquot; his parents purchased in 1928. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters (Dorothy and Elizabeth), and two brothers, Bill and Hiester. His memory will be cherished by his wife of 68 years Phyllis Garman King; daughter, Mary E. House and husband Paul of Nokesville, VA; son, C. L. Rick King and wife Janis of Onancock, VA; daughter Susan K. Burgess and husband Norm; Grandchildren – Chris King and fiancee, Linda Jost; Kari Osborne; Brandon Murch; Danielle Curzi and husband, Rob and grandsons Blaise and Holden; Jason King and wife Christina, grandson Owen and granddaughter Claire King; Emily Leedy and husband Brett, grandsons Evan, Cooper and Oliver Leedy; Tucker King and fiancée Kelly Knepper; 14 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grand children. Dick went to college at VPI as a ROTC Cadet and upon completion of his second year, he was drafted, entered the Navy serving two years (1944 – 1946) in the Marshall Islands, Kwajalein Islands, Ebeye Island and was present when the Declaration of Surrender, ending WWII, was signed. Upon returning home from the service, he started their dairy business on Centerview Farm. Dick and Phyllis were married in 1949, and were always active in the Nokesville community, attending various churches including Nokesville Brethren, Nokesville Methodist and Greenwich Presbyterian. Dick was a founding member of the Veterans Farm Club — a group of quot;Farm boys and WWII Veterans quot; that started the Prince William County Fair in 1949. In the mid-60s, both Dick and Phyllis joined the local fire and rescue squad where Dick served as President and Chief of Co. 5 for nine years and then three years as Chief of the Prince William County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Chiefs Association. Dick decided to relinquish his fire dept. duties to the younger guys in 1984 as an associate/life member. He loved his collection of Fire Department and WWII hats and souvenirs.
