Richard Leo “Dick” Wendt, 69 of Midland, passed away Sunday February 14th 2016. Dick was born in Midland on November 14th 1946 to the late Francis Leo and Ruth Lucille (McDonald) Wendt. He graduated from Midland High School in 1966 where he played varsity football. Dick also attended Ferris State University, Central Michigan University, and Delta College. He married Deborah Leigh Simpson, daughter of Gaylord and Elizabeth (Pyle) Swan of Midland. Dick was a contractor in Midland where he was the vice president and co-owner of Tri City Laboratory Specialists.

He was married to Laura Debold Garlinghouse and ran and owned American Guardian Home Inspection in his later years. He was a parishioner of both St. Brigid of Kildare and Blessed Sacrament Churches. Dick loved the Midland community and came from a family well rooted in the county since the 19th century. He was a big supporter of youth sports and spent many years coaching peewee football, little league and American Legion baseball. Dick will be remembered as someone who loved talking to people and believed that nothing was more important than family and all of his wonderful grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Richard is survived by his sons, Brett “Scott” (Ligita) Wendt, Jason Wendt and his friend, Michelle Marcotte all of Midland, Mark Wendt of Traverse City, Drue “Michael” Wendt of Brooklyn, New York and their mother Deborah Wendt; step children, Sara (Chris) Cohoon, Chad (Emily) Garlinghouse all of Auburn and their mother, Laura Debold; grandchildren, Maija, Lija, Charlie, Aria, Addison, Mallory, Ian, Abby, Raymond, Sophia, Gianna; brother, Gary (Nancy) Wendt of Midland; sisters, Kathryn Wendt of Midland, Nina (Thomas) McCormick of East Tawas; many nieces and nephews.
