His blended family included 15 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, family members through marriage, nieces and nephews, and his best friend Chaz Godfrey. He was preceded in death by his parents Homer and Mary as well as his siblings Eulalia, Thelma, Samuel, Theo and Helen.
Stan as he liked to be called began his adventures early by hitchhiking across the country before he fudged his birthdate in order to enlist in 1954 to the United States Marine Corp where he proudly served in Korea. He and his first wife Jean with their two children lived in the Last Frontier state of Alaska. He was a business owner who helped shape the hundreds of miles of logging roads and many other construction projects in Southeast Alaska.
Stan met Joanne in 1986 and were married June 10, 1989. They built a life in Emmett. Together they were able to fulfill another dream of his of being a “Cowboy” including horses and cattle. But still drawn to construction, he began another company which he shared with his children. Most recently he was a consultant. His business partners and close friends will remember him as a generous boss or advisor.
Stan was called many names and among those were son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather friend, mentor, the Big Kahuna, Chief, and even Dirty Dick but no matter what he answered to he was always there. We will be left with loving memories of a man who took risks, never said “I told you so”, always offered a hand up, and regularly beat others to the punch when paying for the meal. His battle with cancer lasted nine years yet he never complained but remained adamant he would beat it. His strength amazed everyone. No one can take his place in life or in our hearts.
