Richard K. Penington, 68, of Meredosia, died Sunday, October 12, 2008 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.

He was born Jan. 18, 1940 in Macomb, the son of Chester and Nell Kemper Penington. He married Louise Wilson on Dec. 29, 1963 in Versailles and she survives.

He is also survived by two sons, Rick Penington of Meredosia and Rob Penington of Iowa City, IA; and one sister, Vergene Corbitt of Macomb. He was preceded in death by one sister, Correnne Eden.

Mr. Penington was a graduate of Industry High School and Western Illinois University. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era as a military policeman in the Panama Canal Zone from 1963-65.

He then worked for A.B. Chrisman Fertilizer in Mt. Sterling and Meredosia for 32 years as a sales manager and Vice-President, retiring in 1997.

He was a member of West Prairie Church near Industry, Rushville Masonic Lodge 9, Meredosia Kiwanis Club and American Legion Post 516. He enjoyed watching college and professional sports, especially football and baseball. He also took special interest in the local agricultural community.
