Richard Joseph Poulin, Sr, 81, of Akron, Ohio passed away on February 13, 2023, after a sudden illness. Richard was born the oldest of two children to Lucien and Pearl (Ouellette) Poulin in Lewiston, Maine on June 6, 1941.

As a young child Richard’s family moved to Pomeroy, OH. He attended Pomeroy High School, where he met his beloved wife, Marilyn (Blackwood) Poulin. He was smitten with her the very moment he laid eyes on her. They married on August 10, 1963, surrounded by friends and family. Theirs would be a love story for the books. In 1967, Richard and Marilyn had their first child, Richard Joseph Poulin, Jr. whom they fondly referred to as Joey.

Richard was employed by Southern Ohio Coal Company and retired from American Electric Power. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was an amazing friend. He could walk into a room of strangers and walk out best friends before the night was over. He had such a passion for life and his smile could light up a room. He loved swimming and often boasted about how long he could hold his breath underwater. He loved vacationing with his family. After retirement, he was able to relax and take up new interests such as a golf, pickleball, playing the guitar, learning the practice of Tang Soo Do and caring for his dog, Sachi. Ultimately, with his wife by his side, he was passionate about being a grandfather and watching his grandchildren grow into the beautiful people they are today. Richard was one of a kind and will be missed beyond words.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Lucien Poulin, his mom, Pearl (Ouellette) Poulin, his brother, Raymond Poulin and son, Richard “Joey” Poulin, Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marilyn H. Poulin, daughter and son in law, Lisa Dayo and Troy Holmgren, grandchildren, Dominic Poulin, Mia Dayo and Jack Dayo and daughter in law, Krista Kirkwood.
