Richard J. Callahan, 71, of Bethlehem, died Wednesday, July 23, 2008, in his home. He was the husband of Leann (Vu) Callahan for 23 years. Born in Syracuse, NY, he was the son of the late Charles and Rosemary (Snow) Callahan. Dick attended Christian Bros. Academy in Syracuse and St. Andrew’s Seminary in Rochester, NY. He attended Lemoyne College in Syracuse where he played basketball and later he received a B.S. from Temple University in Philadelphia. He worked for Travelers Insurance Co., the former Globe Times as Circulation Manager, taught sales and retail merchandising at Lehigh Vo-Tech. and was the owner/operator of Callahan Leasing. Dick was involved with the Boy Scouts of America where he was Explorer Executive for the Glens Falls Council in NY and also the Explorer Director for the Minsi Trails Council in the Lehigh Valley. He enjoyed being a motorcycle safety instructor at Northampton Community College. He was a Bethlehem City Republican Committeeman. He was a former member of the Solvay Jaycees in NY, the Bethlehem Elk’s Club Lodge 191 and a member of Notre Dame of Bethlehem Catholic Church. Survivors: his wife Leann at home; sons Richard J., II and his wife Jennifer of Columbia, SC, Chip and his wife Sharon of Bethlehem; daughter Allison Krokus of Bethlehem; sons Bryan of Orefield, John and his wife Mafalda of Bethlehem; step-son Daniel Unger of Brandon, FL; step-daughters Marie Frey and her husband Frank of Bethlehem, Joann Hannis and her husband Terry of Northampton; step-son Michael Unger of Bethlehem; sisters Nancy Kells and her husband Bob, Carol Phillips and her husband Bill all of Syracuse; many nieces and nephews; 15 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
