Richard H. “Dick” Miller
1938 ~ 2016

Husband, father, grandpa, uncle, and friend – Richard H. Miller passed away on Friday, September 2, 2016 at the age of 78.

Dad was born in Ogden, Utah on May 1, 1938 to Harriman J. and Winifred Griffiths Miller. He was the second of four children: Connie (Arlo) Lee, Jimmy W. (Karleen) Miller, and Joan (John) Fackrell.

His childhood was full of Huckleberry Finn adventures along the Weber River. He enjoyed his high school years, graduating from Ben Lomond High School in 1956; continuing to be a loyal Scot. Dad had a consistent and dedicated work ethic all his life. He started working at the age of 14 with the Miller Floral in Farmington, Utah. Riding the Bandburger to and from work, he soon saved enough money for a car. Dad worked in the Rose beds with his uncle giving him the passion and love for Roses. His love for the outdoors took him to finding work with the Union Pacific Railroad, launching a career of 45 years as a Brakeman and Conductor. He was also a member of the Utah National Guard 1961-1967. He married his love, JoAnn Nicholas on June 29, 1961, and from this union four children: Michael, Vikki, Scott and Ric. His deep love for nature evolved into hunting wildlife to raising cattle. His love for automobiles took him to collecting and beautifying them. He enjoyed all facets of life with his family: boating on Willard Bay after a long hot day of hauling hay to skiing in the Ogden Mountains with his “crew.” Dad loved all sports; however, his true passion was football and golfing. After retirement, he and mom wintered in Mesquite, Nevada at the little villa. He enjoyed trips in his Razor with mom, and friends, exploring the plateaus and mountain ranges, while looking for the Green-Mojaves’. He was a stern and private man of integrity, high ideals, and love of family. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he had a strong testimony. He leaves his partner JoAnn and children: Michael H. Miller, Vikki Lee Miller, Scott H. Miller, Ric H., and Ricki Lynn Miller. He has seven grandchildren: Michael H. Miller Jr., Ashley (Brendan) Thomas, Nicholas Scott Miller, Kailey Lynn Miller, Abby Ann Miller, Richard Hayden Miller, and Ryan H. Miller. The family would like to express their appreciation to Clinic 1-A Huntsman Center, McKay-Dee Hospital Nursing staff on 3rd floor Acutecare, Hospice of Northern Utah, and Nurse Amanda Hancock for their warm and loving care they gave dad.
