One of the Most Passionate Motorheads, Richard Gary Resta, born August 29th, 1954 in New York, NY passed away April 25th, 2020 in Atlanta surrounded by his 5 daughters. Richard was born to the late Charles and Michelina Resta, giving them a run for their money from day one. Growing up working at his dad’s gas stations on East Islip, Long Island he tinkered and got his hands on anything that came apart. “Richie” loved motors of any kind especially his Motorcycles. At a young age he started working on go-carts, dirt bikes, motorcycles, 4-wheelers, boats, and cars, etc. His enthusiasm turned into racing anything he could; starting with Go-Carts in the N.Y. Worlds Fair to earning 2 Motorcycle Championships with AMA at Daytona National Speedway. As you may already know our father did things his way and only his way. There was a right way, a wrong way, and His way to do things. We have all learned by Richards Way that 99% of the time it was the smartest way. And no he never would admit the other 1% was the wrong way. He’d tell us we were full of $h!t and needed to go back and try again. For all of those he liked or loved he either yelled at you at one point, taught you a life-lesson you’d never forget or most likely both. Even though he came across as the Biggest Intimidating Bad Ass, which he was, he was just a Big Ole Teddy Bear that would give you the holey shirt off his back but only after he wiped down his toys with it. We know Dad is proud that his life lessons are imbedded in us and molded us into the Hard-Headed, Strong, Independent, Resourceful women we are today. Richard spent countless hours under a hood or helping neighbors, friends, and strangers but especially his girls and family with their cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles, and atv’s. You name it he worked on it. You could find him enjoying a ride on his motorcycle, hitting the waves on the boat, yelling at his favorite sports team or simply feeling the breeze on the porch. Richard is survived by, His Life-Long Best Friend and Mother of his 5 Girls: Judith Resta. His Daughters Include: Shannon Resta (Johnny), Stephanie Garmon, Stacey Resta (Michael), Shelly Hammett (Curt), and Sherry Cooper (CJ); grand-kids Include: Samantha (Austin), Jordan, Bryson, Savannah, Daylyn, Michael, Jaidyn, Carston, Stacilynn, and Baby Cato; great grand-kids Include: Noah and Dylan; brothers: Charles Resta (Joan) and Michael Resta (Sharon) and sisters: Linda Park (Edward) and Marie Resta. Richard was preceded in death by his sister Michelle Trepeta. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, cousins as well as great nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Richie. Thank you Daddy for all the Laughs, Tears, Stories, Memories, and Great Times that we will Forever hold Dear. It is gives us comfort knowing as one so sweetly put it “You are now Riding on that Golden Track” high above us as we feel the Wind Beneath your Wings. Thank you to those of you who took the time to read just a snip it of his Legacy but we will leave you with one of Richard Resta’s favorite sayings “I don’t give a Rat’s A$$”. No services are planned at this time.
