Mr. Richard Garvin Miller, 86, of Indian Trail, went home to be with the Lord January 11, 2019 in the Novant Health Matthews Medical Center Hospice. Mr. Garvin, as he was commonly called, was born December 24, 1932 to Reggie Lewis and Ruby Jane Crump Miller in Mecklenburg County. Mr. Garvin retired as a Truck Driver with Bass and Company and also drove for Dyke Industries. He was previously a Prison Guard with the Union County Corrections. Mr. Garvin served in the US Army as an Engineer during the Korean Conflict and earned the rank of Corporal.

On June 26, 1953 he married Liza Jane Moore Miller and celebrated 65 and a half years of marriage. Left to cherish his memory are his 3 children, Joy Miller Funderburk, Randy Miller and Nevele M. Love and husband Ronnie; 9 Grandchildren Dana D. Keziah (Ricky), Jason Funderburk, Derek Funderburk, Christy Knight, Shane Miller, Jeremy Miller, Colton Mills, Tyler Love (Miranda) and Madisen Love; 4 Great-Grandchildren Kyle Miller, Kaden Miller, Ashlyn Knight and Gavin Keziah; and Brother Doie Lee Miller (Frances).

He is preceded in death by his parents, Brother Buddy Miller and Grandson-in-Law Doug Knight.

Mr. Garvin was a Charter Member and Sunday School Teacher of Bright Spot Baptist Church. He is well known as a great Soul Winner serving in US and Foreign Country Missions in several nations.
