Richard Eugene Durham Sr., 74, was called home by his Lord on Tuesday, August 18, 2009. He was born in Chattanooga on December 7, 1934, the son of the late George William and Eva Pelfrey Durham. He was also preceded in death by one brother and seven sisters; and one grandson, Stephen E. Pursley III. He was a loving and devoted husband, wonderful caring father, a pillar in the community and – most importantly – a devout Christian man who loved the Lord. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was educated in Hamilton County public schools and graduated from Kirkman High School in 1952. He met his beautiful wife, Joyce, during high school and they married six months after their graduation in 1952. They would have celebrated 57 years of marriage this coming December. Richard was one of the top sales representatives for Dyke Industries, Inc. in Knoxville, Tenn. and retired in April 1997 after a career that spanned 42 years in the building industry.
