Richard E. Ravenscroft, 73, of Lehigh Drive, died at 10 a.m. Friday (Sept. 1, 2006) at Memorial Hospital of South Bend after a battle with cancer.
He was born April 28, 1933, in Elkhart to Floyd and Dorothy (Tellerday) Ravenscroft. He married Jean Stilwell on Feb. 16, 1952, in Elkhart.
She survives in Elkhart, along with two daughters, Gloria (David) Edwards and Judy (Patrick) Taber, both of Elkhart; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Sheri Bain of Portland, Ore.; and one brother, Michael Anthony of Orange, Calif.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Freedline.
Mr. Ravenscroft was the owner/operator of his own mobile home transport truck from 1979 to 2000. He formerly worked at Henry Weiss Manufacturing, and after his retirement, he did escort work for Tri-State, Inc. until his illness. He was well known by his handle, “Turkey Legs” and was a longtime member and usher at New Creation Fellowship in Granger.
Mr. Ravenscroft was a former Elkhart Police Dept. Auxiliary Officer for 10 years. He enjoyed mowing and working in his yard, fishing and boating at his former home on Simonton Lake and traveling with his wife, Jean, in their RV.
