Richard E. Norris, 84, of Galesburg, died on Sunday, July 28, 2019, 4:00 AM, at Seminary Manor, Galesburg. Richard was born on March 27, 1935, in Galesburg. He was the son of Charles and Anna (Cooper) Norris. Richard married the love of his life, Phyllis R. Nemeth, on June 28, 1958, at the St. Paul Catholic Church, Burlington, Iowa. Together they celebrated 61 years of marriage.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis of Galesburg; his son, Greg (Laura) Norris of Galesburg; brother, Max (Trish) Norris of Modesto, Ca; sister, Sandra (Wayne) Madvig of Galesburg; and special friend, Zoe Blucker. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bud and Clyde; and sisters, Donna and Betty. Richard attended and graduated from Galesburg schools. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
Richard was a member of Local #649 Operating Engineers for 62 years, retiring from Gunther Construction in 1993. Richard loved to help and work with his son’s business, Norris Sound and Lighting. He also enjoyed watching the COSTA marching band, going to the river boat casinos and playing bingo. Most of all, Richard loved spending time with his family.
