Richard E. Arel, 79, of Newington and Vero Beach, FL died on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016. He was the beloved husband of Jo-Ann (Linden) Arel for the last 51 years. Born in New Britain, son of the late Leon and Mary (Meyer) Arel, he lived in Newington most of his life and attended Holy Spirit Church and was a member of the Men’s Club. Richard graduated from Newington High School class of ’55 attended Hartford State Tech, received his Bachelor’s Degree from CCSU and his Master’s Degree from Rensselaer, Hartford. He worked at Pratt & Whitney as a PMC Supervisor for 30 years before retiring in 1998. He served in the U.S. Army and the Army Reserves and was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus council #3884. Richard was active in teaching CCD and CYO at Holy Spirit Church and volunteered at the Indian River Medical Center in Florida. He was an avid fan of the U-Conn Girls Basketball and enjoyed his friends in the “Friday night dinner crew”. Besides his wife, Jo-Ann, a loving father and grandfather, he leaves his two daughters Lisa DeLude, Christine Veilleux and her husband Roger, 4 granddaughters: Nicole and Heather DeLude, Marissa and Jessica Veilleux all of Newington and his “grand-dog” “Kaileigh”. He was predeceased by his brother Robert Arel.
