Richard was born to Ernest & Freda Ihler and grew up on the family farm in Filer, after graduation from high school he moved to Anchorage, AK where he worked for the summer on fishing boats and earned enough money to buy his first car in 1952, Upon coming home he met his wife Janet of 50 years and he then joined the army and served for 2 years during the Korean conflict.
