Richard Dean Hamilton was born on January 15, 1939 at his home in Lucas, Iowa to Charles W. and Vera S. (Boyce) Hamilton. He was the third of five children.
He attended Lucas School from kindergarten through 12th grade, graduating with the class of 1958.
Dick first met the love of his life, Shirley Ann Halferty in August 1955. They then wed on March 12, 1960. In June 1962, Dick was drafted to serve his country and was stationed in Hanau, Germany. Dick and Shirley returned to the States in June 1964 and Dick resumed his civilian life as owner and operator of Hamilton Standard.
On August 4, 1964 they welcomed their first born, daughter Richelle Dianne. On May 31, 1970 a son, Richard “Rich” Dean II was welcomed to their family. In 1987, Dick added another interest and built Hamilton’s Car Wash.
He enjoyed his restored classic car collection, NASCAR, slot machines at the Casino, scratch tickets, and being with his family.
Dick passed away on September 19, 2014 at Legacy Lodge, in Chariton, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous and strong fought battle with lung cancer.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Vera Hamilton; his In-Laws, Dennis and Mildred Halferty; sister-in-law, Juanita Hall and brother-in-law Dwaine Halferty.
Dick is survived by his wife, Shirley of 54 years of marriage; Children – Richelle (Abe) Savage and Rich (Diane) Hamilton both of Chariton, IA; Grandchildren – Abee Savage of Sigourney, IA, Ali (Jeff) Hand of Altoona, IA, and Austin and Brady Hamilton both of Chariton, IA; Brothers – Jim (Donna) Hamilton of Osceola, IA, Glenn (Rose) Hamilton of Casa Grande, AZ, and Gene (Betty) Hamilton of Urbandale, IA; Sister – Eloise (Bob) Ericson of Story City, IA and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
