Richard D. Smith, Sr., age 78 of Burlington Twp., died Friday January 18, 2013 at Penn Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia. Born in Trenton, Mr. Smith was a longtime Burlington resident. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam War. Richard was a Corrections Officer for the State of NJ, last working in Yardville before his retirement in 1996.

A devout catholic, he was a parishioner of All Saints R.C. Church in Burlington, where he attended Mass daily. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, an usher and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 589 in Burlington. He was an avid sports fan, who enjoyed watching all sports both college and professional. He also enjoyed working outside in the yard. Richard went to join his wife of 50 years, Dolores who predeceased him in 2009. He was also predeceased by his parents James and Adele (nee Wisniewski) and his brother James Smith.

He is survived by his son and daughter in law Richard Jr. and Penni Smith, his daughter and son in law Dina and Bob Schimchak, his daughter Celeste Smith, his grandchildren of whom he was very proud Dylan and Brandon Schimchak and Rori Smith. He is also survived by his brothers Denis and Eugene Smith as well as many nieces and nephews.
