Richard Cain Winegar went to be with the Lord on March 29th, 2011. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska on February 10, 1938. Preceded in death by his father Robert Frank Winegar and his mother Ruth Cain Winegar. He is survived by his brother Dr. Robert Frank Winegar II and his wife Barbara of Granbury, Texas, his four sons, Robert Charles Winegar of Seattle Washington, Richard Frederick Winegar and his wife Bianca of San Antonio, Texas, Frank Erick Winegar and his wife Lynda of Ashburn, Virginia and William Edward Winegar and his wife Kris of Pattison, Texas, and the mother of his four sons, Greta Basil Winegar of San Antonio, Texas Richard is also survived by six grandchildren, Zachary Cain Winegar, Erika Lauren Winegar, Austin Robert Winegar, Christopher William Winegar, Edward Jacob Winegar, William Benjamin Winegar, and one great grandson, Aiden Downs. He too is survived by his dear sweet friend Joyce Bowman of Boerne, Texas. Richard served 8 years in the US Marine Corp and Reserves, and was a graduate of the University of Houston. His career was in sales but he was most proud of his 52 years of service in the Southwest Baseball Umpire”s Association. Richard moved to San Antonio in 1962 and raised his family. He was very involved in his children”s lives. He was a co-founder of Columbia Little League, Boy Scout master, member of John Jay High School”s booster club for many years and was a sports writer for the Citizen”s News for a number of years. He invested a lot of time in rearing his children and was proud to see them all grow up and have successful lives. He cherished his family. He was keenly interested in the genealogy of his family and spent several years researching his roots. He spent many weekends driving his young family to the hill country to look at bluebonnets, and the beautiful Texas countryside. He enjoyed the hill country so much he retired to Boerne, Texas in 2001. He loved Texas history and was an avid reader and book collector. Richard was very active in his community. He was a member and deacon of Central Christian Church of San Antonio where he served in the Stephen”s Ministry and was a Sunday School teacher. He was also a faithful member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) for 15 years. He was an active member of the Rainbow Senior Center at Kronkosky Place. He was a member of the Senior Maranatha Choir from First Baptist Church. He participated at the Senior”s First Friday at the Methodist Church, backed the Vintage Baseball Team, was a member of the Genealogical Society of Kendall County and the Boerne Area Historical Preservation Society. He served regularly with Meals on Wheels in Boerne and was an avid supporter of the Boerne Village Band.
