Richard C. Lennartz, 84, of Anderson, born to Clem and Creta Lennartz, raised by grandparents, Joseph and Julia Lennartz, died at Community Hospital, Anderson following a stroke.

He was the widower of Norma Jean (Farmer) Lennartz, whom he married on February 27, 1951. He graduated from Anderson High School in 1949, and served for 4 years in the National Guard. He began working at the Alliance Theaters in May 1947, managing the South Drive-In and North Drive-In, where he was instrumental in bringing the “Pizza Pie” to the theaters. He also managed the State, Riviera, and Paramount Theaters, as well as the 1st McDonalds in Anderson at the downtown location. In 1962, he began working as a plant protection officer at Delco Remy, retiring in 1992.

He belonged to the Moose Lodge, the Elks, and the Knights of Columbus. Being a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, he served as an usher, and a Eucharistic Minister. Besides his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Norma; sons, Douglas and Dennis Lennartz; granddaughter, Sandy Jean Lennartz; and brothers, Edward and Robert Lennartz.

Richard is survived by his children, David (Cynthia) Lennartz of Las Vegas, NV, Darlene (Colin) Robinson of Anderson; grandchildren, Leslie (Eric) Johnson, Angi (Don) Shearer, Misty (Adam) Bowers, Kyle (Dakota) Robinson, Jamie (Jeff) Carter, Jordan (Jon) Galvin, Dustin Lennartz, Martin (Amanda) Lennartz, Kerry Anne Lennartz, and 12 great-grandchildren.
