Richard C. Griffey, 86, of Fortville, passed away Monday, May 13, 2019 at home surrounded by his family. He was born March 24, 1933 in Hamilton County, Indiana to the late Calvin and Ruth (Cassidy) Griffey. Dick was a 1952 graduate of the old Fortville High School. He retired from Guide Lamp in 1986 as a tool and die maker after 33 years’ service. Dick also worked as a mason and drove a school bus for 10 years for Hamilton Southeastern School District.

Dick was a former deacon at the Fortville Christian Church and placed the corner stone and time capsule of their current building. He was a member of the National Guard. Dick enjoyed spending time with family, he coached baseball and basketball, enjoyed reading and could fix anything. When he was younger, Dick was a tap dancer, piano player and played the saxophone in the high school band. He put out a large garden every year. Dick’s biggest passion was horses. He raised Morgan and Quarter horses and always enjoyed riding them.

Dick is survived by children: Carol (Larry) Ellis, Cathy (Skip) Littell, Cindy (Kerry) Lowery, Max (Kelly) Griffey and Mark Griffey; grandchildren: Andy (Heather) Walton, Wendy (Jason) Ronna, Timothy (Mary Ann) Walton, Abby (Greg) King, Michael (DJ) Littell, Sarah Littell, Kara (Shawn) Parker, Jana Lowery, Zachary (Amy) Griffey, Megan Griffey; great-grandchildren: Joel and Hanna Walton, Rylee and Ryder Ronna, Trevor, Shane and Blake Walton and Kris and Kaiden King; siblings: Max (Judy) Griffey, Ruth Ann (David) Brooks, Karen (Roger) Ingvoldstad, Susan Goodman, Mary (Robert) Chastain, Pamela (Greg) MacCallister; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by wife Marlene A. Griffey, sister: Cynthia Cole and infant brother David Griffey.
