Richard Benjamin Schmutz, 41, of Layton, Utah, passed away after a mountain biking accident on Saturday September 3, 2016 in Park City, Utah.
Richard was born in Provo, Utah to Stanton and Bobi Schmutz on February 26, 1975. He graduated from Chaparral High School in Las Vegas, NV. He was an Eagle Scout and served an LDS mission to Chicago, Illinois from 1994-1996. He married Nikki Anne Thomas on February 14, 1997 in the Salt Lake Temple. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelors from Stevens-Henager College and worked as an electrician for Premier Electric. He loved his family, had a passion for life and the people in it, was involved with his local Boy Scout Troop, and spent the last day of his life doing something he enjoyed.
Richard is preceded in death by his father, Stan and his grandparents, Stanton and Joyce Schmutz and Charley and Betty Carmichael.
Richard is survived by his wife, Nikki; and their four children Andrew, Anna, Arick, and Austin. His mother, Bobi; stepfather, John Peterson; and his siblings, Stanton (Alexis), Amber (Mark Chase), Joseph (Danelle), and Dawn (Ryan Bingham).
