Richard Basil Bowden, 87 of Elkton, MD, formerly of Port Deposit, MD and Front Royal, VA died Friday, July 22, 2011 at Elkton Care and Rehab, Elkton, MD.
Born in Havre de Grace, MD, on July 13, 1924, he was the son of the late Basil Haynes and the late Adeline Victoria Whyte Bowden. He was the husband of the late Etta Mae Bowden who died in 1990. He was also preceded in death by 3 sisters: Edith Baker, Mary Brown, Elma Becker and a son: Richard Wayne Bowden.
Mr. Bowden worked for Wiley’s Manufacturing, Port Deposit, MD. He also worked at a salvage yard on Theodore Road in Port Deposit. In the late 1950’s through the early 1960’s, he had an auto repair shop on Craigtown Road in Port Deposit. During the time of ownership of the auto repair shop, he spent his spare time racing his car at the Cecil County Dragway. He owned and operated a firewood business when he lived in Front Royal, VA.
He is survived by his children: Catherine Corron and her husband Ronald of North East, MD, Linda Chestnut and her husband Jerry of North East, MD, Paula Lofthouse and her husband Earl of Elkton, MD, James Bowden and his wife Katherine of Strasburg, VA and Daniel Bowden and his wife Bobbi of Front Royal, VA; his sister: Anne Belton of Chesapeake, VA; 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Elkton Care and Rehab for the great care they gave Richard during his stay the past 7 years. Also, special thanks to Ralph for all of his kindness and personal care he gave to our father.
