Richard Allen “Dick” Ruppel, 85, of Tucson, AZ, died Jan. 21, 2018, at his residence.
He was born July 13, 1932, in rural Cass County, the son of Henry Daniel Ruppel and Beatrice Marie Buck Ruppel. He married Alice Novack on May 29, 1965, and they later divorced. He then married Genevieve Brown on Nov. 22, 1984, in Scottsdale, AZ, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 2, 2016.
Surviving are three sisters, Roseanne Ommen of Jacksonville, Kathleen Hoffmann and Marilyn Paul, both of Peoria; and a brother, Wilbur Meyer of Beardstown. Also surviving is a daughter, Dorothy Ruppel Turner (husband, Tommy); and four grandchildren, Trevor, Rebecca, Charlotte, and Henry Turner, all of Tucson, AZ. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Henry Meyer and Marshall Duane Meyer.
Richard was raised on a farm in rural Cass County before joining the Marine Corps in 1952 during the Korean Conflict. He was a 1960 graduate of the University of Illinois, getting his degree in electrical engineering, which led him to a job with Motorola in Chicago and then later being transferred to Scottsdale, AZ where he made his home.
Richard will always be remembered as a good and gentle man. He especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
