Richard Allen “Rick” Lawson, 56, Anderson, died peacefully surrounded by family after an extended illness on September 26, 2008. He was a man of great faith, anticipating being with his heavenly father.

He was born on March 8, 1952, in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He served in the Michigan Army National Guard from 1971-to 1976 as an SP4-E4. He received an Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, Broadsword Service Medal, and Expert with Rifle Badge. He lived in the Indianapolis area 10 years prior to moving to Anderson in 1991 when he married his wife. He was an avid University of Michigan sports fan, played golf, church softball, and bowled. He also loved to cook, do yard work and travel to Mackinac Island, Michigan every summer with his wife.

He is survived by his wife, Diane; sons, Troy and Jarrod Lawson; step-daughters, Michelle Freestone Perea and Jennifer Freestone Johnson; 8 grandchildren, Olivia, Sophia, Alejandra, Peter Diego, Kyle, Brayden, Devon & Skylar; brothers, Larry Trudy Lawson, Len Eve Lawson and David Kathy Lawson; sister, Joanne Wheatley; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lamont; his mother, Harriet, and brothers, Les and Gary.
