Richard Allen Burk died Thursday, August 27, 2015. He died grudgingly, succumbing to cancer, as have many before him. He was unwilling to go, but he was ready. He died content. Richard was born on March 6, 1940, to Elmer John and Charlotte Irene Burk at Passaic General Hospital. He was a life-long resident of Lavallette, his first love.

He enlisted in the Army in 1965, during which period he enjoyed service in Vietnam, from which “none returned unchanged.” While there, Richard Burk had the distinct honor of serving with Spec. 5 Richard Koeln. He was a graduate of the University of Akron. He did not much care for Ohio, especially when rivers catch fire. He had two friends in Ohio; it’s not easy to make friends in Ohio. After considerable years of study, Mr. Burk achieved the New Jersey State Electrical Contractor’s License (#5026). He was an Electrical Contractor for fourteen years, trading as Quicksilver Electric. He is no longer practicing. In 1987 he joined the Borough of Lavallette’s electric department, retiring on May 12, 2015. A lifelong New York and San Francisco Giants baseball fan, he lived with the team, and loved the team, but died of cancer.

He leaves behind to his heirs and assigns not much: a few memories, good, he hoped. He leaves his wife, Michele (long-suffering); she was married to him for forty years-FORTY YEARS!; his daughters, Laurie, Gnosha (yes, Gnosha), Lisa, and his son Matthew. This notice of passing wishes also to acknowledge his daughter-in-law Shannon, and his sons-in-law George, Sam, and Chris. He and Michele have nine grandchildren: Sheyn, Tyler, Sophie, Charlotte, Natalie, Emily, Ivy, Charlie, and Nick. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law Diane, his best friend, and brother-in-law Bill, nieces Christine and Jamie and their son Chase, Lindsay and Ashley, and Jean-Marie and David and their son, Graham. Fiona and Zoe will miss his attention to their fuzzy selves.
