Rev. Lloyd William Allen, 83, of Pinson, TN., died Wednesday, January 9, 2008, his 65th Wedding Anniversary, at Huntington Health and Rehabilitation Center in Huntingdon, TN. He was born May 20, 1924, in Chambersburg, the son of Virgil and Lillie Phillips Allen. He married Bernice Scott on January 9, 1943, in Bowling Green, MO. and she survives.
He is also survived by four children, Joe Dean (wife, Janet) Allen of Pinson, TN., Anna B. (husband, Fred) Atwood of Meredosia, Michael Lloyd (wife, Sherry) Allen of Brighton, and Randy Wayne Allen of Meredosia; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Elsie (husband, Chester) Todd of Meredosia; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends. He was preceded in death by one great-grandson, Damian Smith; two sisters, Marilyn Bishop (surviving husband, James of Beardstown) and Lucille Gregory; and two brothers, Herman Wesley Allen and Donald Perry Allen.
Lloyd was a World War II veteran, serving in the 15th Air Force, and went to gunnery school in Las Vegas, NV. He was a flight engineer and gunner on a B-24 Liberator when shot down over Budapest, Hungary on his thirty-seventh mission. He was a German prisoner for nine months and was on the â??Black Hunger Death Marchâ? for three months. He was liberated on April 26, 1945. He was awarded several medals, the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Combat Ribbon, POW Medal, World War II Medal, Good Conduct Medal and American Campaign Medal. He never received his Purple Heart Medal because his records were burned in the St. Louis fire.
He was a Pentecostal Minister and had churches in Beardstown, Meredosia, Clayton, Litchfield, Cape Girardeau, MO., Tulsa OK., Brownsville, TX., Charlotte N.C., and Kansas City, MO. He was the custodian of both schools in Meredosia until he retired at 62 years of age.
Lloyd and his wife moved to Pinson, TN. in 2002, and he had lived at the Huntington Health and Rehabilitation Center in Huntington, TN. since August 2004.
