Rev. Jack Edward Austin, 70, of Salem passed away peacefully at Hospice House on Thursday, June 21, 2012. He was born on March 26, 1942 in Herrick, IL to Charles Edward and Roselynn (Sarver) Austin, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Karen (Gross) Austin of Salem, whom he married on April 19, 1974; his three sons, Jason (Kendell) Austin of Salem, Todd (Emily) Austin of Boulder City, NV and Seth Austin of Fort Worth, TX; and his three grandchildren, Macey, Jason, and Sydney. He is also survived by a sister, Linda (Gary) Baumgartner of Braidwood, IL. He attended Lincoln Christian University in Lincoln, IL, and entered the ministry shortly thereafter. He served as pastor in Lexington, KY, Crawfordsville, IN, and in Salem. He loved, cared for, and shared Christ’s love with countless people during his career, most notably during his nearly three decades at First Christian in Salem. He served there as youth pastor from 1967-1978 and as senior pastor from 1987-2006. He was a past board member and past president of AID, member and past president of the Salem Ministerial Association, a board member of the Memorial Building in Salem, and was instrumental in the creation of the Banquet in Salem.
