Rev. Harvey Brantley Johnson, “Papa Johnson†92, of 616 Johnson Road, Dry Fork, Va. died Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at his home surrounded by his beloved family. He was born on April 29, 1919 in Pittsylvania County to the late John E. Johnson and the late Dulcie Carter Johnson. He was predeceased by Frances Lewis Johnson, his loving wife of 63 years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United Stated Army 29th Infantry Division. He was a Purple Heart recipient due to his courageous service in Normandy. He was “born again†on his 19th birthday and willingly gave 73 faithful years to his Lord’s work, during which he read the bible through 145 times. He was a Holiness preacher and pastored for many years, ministering in numerous churches, camp meetings, nursing homes, jails and tent meetings. His dedication to the Gospel resulted in many souls being won to Christ. He was the visionary founder and administrator of Dry Fork Christian School and a member of the Dry Fork Pentecostal Fire Baptized Holiness Church. He was a dearly loved pillar of the Dry Fork community. He is survived by his two daughters, Brenda J. Jefferson (Clinton) of Danville and Teresa J. Burnette of Lynch Station, Va.; five sons: Rev. Steve E. Johnson (Linda) of Dry Fork, Michael L. Johnson (Brenda) of Providence, NC, P. Keith Johnson (Janice) of Dry Fork, David L. Johnson of Honea Path, SC, Rev. Jonathan E. Johnson (Kathy) of Dry Fork, 24 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by one son, Harvey Brantley Johnson, Jr., one granddaughter, Sharon Elizabeth Johnson, one sister, Ola J. Hall and three brothers; Thelbert E. Johnson, Aubyn C. Johnson and Octavious C. Johnson.
