The oldest daughter of a large farm family, she cared for her younger siblings and took on the endless tasks of a farm household with hardly a chance for a childhood of her own. Eventually, her care for the youngest turned into caring for the oldest as her parents, Victor and Margaret, grew to depend on her in their old age.
