Refugio C. Quiroz, 92, passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at her home in Streator, Illinois surrounded by her family.
Refugio was born May 7, 1929 in Shafter, TX to Manuel Cruz and Manuela Arroyo Best known by her family and friends as Cuquita, she lived in Mexico City before traveling to Chicago with her best friend. She met and later married Benigno Quiroz on November 14, 1959 and resided in Chicago, Illinois. The couple started a family and actively participated in grass roots organizations that promoted civic and cultural efforts that strengthened immigrant communities.
Refugio was a talented singer, floral arrangement designer and an avid reader. She is survived by her four children, Cynthia (Juan) Ramos, of Streator, Manuel (Rosalba) Quiroz, of Bossier City, LA, Patricia (David) Flores, of Kissimmee, FL, Alvaro Quiroz, Shreveport, LA; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; daughter-in-law Patricia Quiroz and three sisters, Barbara, Rosa, and Delfina. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Benigno; four sisters Consuelo, Socorro, Angela, and Herminia; and a brother, Guillermo “Memo.”Memorials may be directed to the family
