WEST HAVEN – Rees Herbert Johnson, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family, Monday, February 17, 2014.
He was born November 4, 1924 in Springdale Idaho to Rees Louis and Julia May Johnson.
Rees served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was assigned to the 780th Amphibious Tank Battalion. He was deployed to the Pacific Ocean Theatre and participated in the invasion of LEYTE in the Philippines, as well as the invasion of Okinawa, Japan. He was a highly decorated veteran, receiving medals such as the Purple Heart, Philippine Liberation, Asia Pacific Campaign, and the World War II Victory medal.
