Rebecca Gray Powell, 91, of Newnan passed away Thursday, October 23, 2014. Rebecca was born August 15, 1923 in Terrell County, GA to the late Wallace Gray & Ruth Widener Gray. Her parents were both Newnan natives and lived briefly in Terrell County, GA where she was born and lived for only three months of her life. Her family moved back to Newnan where her father served as the Clerk of Court for Coweta for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hanson Redwine Powell. Rebecca graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She later served as the secretary for the First Baptist Church of Newnan for thirty years. She is survived by son, Hanson Redwine “Hank” Powell, Jr. & wife Renee of Newnan; daughter, Ruth Gray Powell Baker & husband Andy of Dalton; grandchildren, Elizabeth Anderson Baker, Hanson R. Powell, III, Emily Gray Powell, Nora Lee Powell; and her daughter-in-law’s children, Rebecca Segrest, Amarie Land, Camille Land, Kathryn Land.
