Raymond William White, 80, of Boerne, Texas passed away on Friday, August 13, 2021 at Methodist Emergency Room in Boerne.
Raymond was born on September 11, 1940 in Glen Dale, West Virginia to Clayton William White and Sadie Rine White. He grew up in Moundsville, West Virginia where he learned the values of hard work, sacrifice, patriotism, and loyalty. What he valued most, though, was his family. He always took care of them, and they knew they could count on him even when they were miles apart. He graduated from Moundsville High School in 1958. In 1961 he joined the Army. During the Cuban Missile Crisis, he was sent with his HAWK missile unit to a site south of Miami, Florida. The men lived in tents in a mosquito, rat infested swamp. While stationed there, he met Judith Schmidt, a 17-year-old high school senior. After Judith graduated, they were married in June 1964 in the chapel at Fort Bliss, Texas. In May 1965 their first daughter was born; there would be another daughter and a son. Four months later, Raymond was in Viet Nam. During his long military career, he worked mostly as a radar technician, and later, in weapons development. During his career he earned many military honors to include the Army Commendation Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal.
After retiring from the Army as a Master Sergeant/E8 in 1990, Raymond attended El Paso Community College where he earned associate degrees in computer electronics, and in programming. He then worked as an information technology technician at El Paso Community College until retiring from there. Everyone at EPCC often spoke of how dependable and well liked he was.
After retiring from EPCC, he moved to Boerne. He became active in Veterans of Foreign Wars post 688, and joined a HAM radio organization. Raymond was interested in military history, guns, and he collected military memorabilia.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judith Schmidt White of Boerne; his children, Patricia White Anderson of Boerne; Christina White Hendricks of Virginia; Daniel William White (Jodi) of Washington; his grandchildren, Kyle Raymond Anderson (Chelsea) of Boerne, Sabrina Hendricks and Meredith Hendricks of Virginia, and Bailey White, Hunter White, and Morgan White of Washington; his great-grandson, Jackson Anderson of Boerne; his sister, Caroline White Kirkpatrick of West Virginia; his nephew, Clayton J. White (Cynthia) of West Virginia; his sister-in-law, Joanne Schmidt Gohlke of Florida; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clayton William White and his mother, Sadie Rine White.
The family would like to express their gratitude towards VFW District 13 Commander Andrew Camplen and fellow veterans at VFW Post 688, Boerne first responders, and the doctors and staff at Methodist ER Boerne.
