Raymond William Schnaare, 95. of Centralia passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center at Marion. He was born November 7, 1919 in Grand Chain, Il to Pearl (Sheffer) and Herbert Schnaare. On May 3, 1941 he married Ann E. Harper of Centralia; she proceeded him in death January 1, 1971.

He is survived by a son, Fred Schnaare of Gardnerville, NV; a daughter Karen McCollister of Canton, OH; five grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel Spindler of Metropolis and Marths Schnaare of Buncombe and a brother, Howard of Grand Chain. He was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife, son Terry Schnaare, sister, Elizabeth Rice and two brothers, Silas (Buddy) Schnaare and Cecil Schnaare. Raymond spent four years in the CCC. He was a World War II veteran and served in the US Navy Seabees; he also worked for the Illinois Central Railroad.

Mr. Schnaare was instrumental in getting the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Chapter Gateway #76 in Centralia established. He loved to dance.
