Raymond Eugene (Gene) Nelson, 85, passed away suddenly. He was preceded in death by his wife Peggy, his sons Todd (Corrie) and Kent, parents Lawrence and Alta, brothers Vernon and Merle and sisters Shirley, Donna and Gwen. He is survived by his daughters Peggy Spencer (Mark) and Crystal Nelson-Nield (Roy), granddaughter Kaitlyn Bear, brothers Wayne (Darlene), Max (Carolyn) and Larry (Joni) and sisters Jessie Clericuzio and Lois Jackson (Gunny), along with numerous nephews and nieces.
Raymond was born and grew up in rural Madison County, Iowa, and attended and graduated from high school in St. Charles. He worked in various capacities throughout his life and was known for his fix-anything ability. He worked for many years repairing boats and boat motors and retired after more than 30 years working at the Firestone plant in Des Moines.
Raymond was active in many activities while raising his children, including Cub Scouts, and was known well for his steadfast patience and kindness. His many interests included traveling, camping, boating, water-skiing, snow skiing, reading, woodworking, family history, and telling stories. He was known to be responsible for numerous nieces and nephews learning to water-ski.
