Raymond Frederick Freeman, 89, died August 31, 2022 at his home in Alexandria, Virginia with his family by his side. 

Ray was born October 29, 1932 in Boston, MA to Dorothy Wolcott Griffith and Raymond Alison Freeman.  He earned a PhD in theoretical physics from MIT, served in the U.S. Army for several years, and worked for the U.S. Department of Defense for over 42 years.  

He may be best known for his musical talent.  He served as church organist at several churches in New York state and Northern Virginia for over 60 years.  An accomplished pianist, he performed as soloist with the Arlington Symphony and accompanied both the Northern Virginia Chorale and the Ron Freeman Chorale.  He met his Wife, Margaret (Peggy) Jean Shetley while both played cello in the Arlington United Methodist Church Orchestra.  He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.    

Ray is survived by his wife of 53 years Margaret Freeman, sister Marjorie Bunk, daughter Barbie Freeman, son Gregory Freeman, and four grandchildren, Ariel and Lenora Anderson, and Silas and Josephine Freeman.
