Raymond Stephens, 85, of Ottawa died on Tuesday, October 15, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family. Ray was born on May 19,1934, in Grand Ridge to Raymond and Bessie (Holliday) Stephens, Sr. He was a graduate of Ottawa Township High School and attended the University of Illinois. He married Ruth Alsvig on Nov. 22, 1956 in Newark. He was employed at Libbey-Owens-Ford for 40 years until his retirement. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church, the Midwest Antique Airplane Club, Experimental Aircraft Association, National Aeronca Association, and the NRA.
He served for 15 years on the Financial Plus Credit Union Board of Directors. He enjoyed many outdoor activities but his passion was flying, especially in his Aeronca Champ. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, one son, Rob Stephens, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and one daughter, Rhonda (Kevin) Ahern, of Ottawa, 3 grandsons, Brent, Stephen, and Alex Ahern, and one great-granddaughter, Briella Ahern, all of Ottawa, and one brother Charles (Mary J.) Stephens, of Lostant. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Rosemer Stephens.
