Raymond A. Massaro, 90, was born in Orange, New Jersey and was raised in South Orange, died peacefully at Complete Care Holiday City, Toms River. Raymond graduated Columbia High School and served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He attended Panzer College where he met his wife of 63 years. He graduated with a BS and a master’s degree at Montclair State University. Raymond was a beloved husband, father, coach, and teacher.
A member of the New Jersey Football-Basketball Associations, Baseball Umpires Associations, Roselle Knights of Columbus, and The Roselle American Legion. He was a teacher at Roselle Catholic High School and a well-recognized baseball coach winning the Greater Newark Tournament twice. Raymond left his love of teaching and coaching to work at the post office always making decisions that were best for his family. He retired to Toms River and was able to go back to guiding young students substitute teaching in the Toms River School System until an amazing 85 years old.
Raymond is predeceased by his parents, Anthony Massaro and Mary Allbanese Massaro; cousin, Rose DiRocco and beloved daughter in law, Christine Massaro.
Raymond is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Christine Straube Massaro; sons, Tony Massaro and his wife Cathy of Pennsylvania; Jim Massaro, Sr., and his wife Belinda of Linden; Ray and his girlfriend Lori of Madison; Michael Massaro and his wife Kelli of North Carolina; brother, Stewart Massaro; grandchildren, Jim Jr.; Nicholas; Jessica; Rachel; Caitlyn; Vincent; Matthew; great grandchildren, Gabriel; Savannah; Aubrey; James Jr.III; and Thomas.
