Randall Lee Perkins, 68, passed away Saturday, June 12, 2021, at home from a heart attack.
Randy was born June 22, 1952, in Perry, IA to Glenn and Marjorie (Todd) Perkins. He graduated from Dallas Center-Grimes High School in 1971. He married his high school sweetheart, Christina Brauckman, on April 20, 1974 at Assumption Church in Granger.
Randy served in the Iowa Air National Guard for eight years, from 1972 – 1980. He was a driver and porter for UPS for 30 years.
Randy’s true passion was motorsports. He started racing stock cars when he was 16 at the State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. Randy did a little tractor pulling followed by go kart racing. He introduced his four sons to competitive go kart racing and built engines for his sons and customers. He pursued his dream as a track promoter in 1993 starting with Riverside Speedway in Adel and then built Jamaica Raceway in 1998 where he hosted several national championships with IKF and WKA organizations resulting in lifelong friendships and a large extended racing family. He served on the Jamaica City Counsel for 12 years and as Mayor Pro-Tem during his last term.
Randy is survived by his wife of 47 years, Christina, four sons, Brian Perkins of Dallas Center, David (Susan) Perkins of Lake Barrington, IL, Thomas (Cheenee) Perkins of Boone, IA, and Nicholas (Adreanne) Perkins of Dallas Center; his grandchildren, Taylor, Ashley, Lilyann, Braxton, Grady, and Huxley; and his sister, Denise (Bruce) Pontious of Sac City, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents.
