RaMon (Ray) Derell Jensen passed away on Friday, October 14th, at the age of 88. He was the son of William Derell Jensen and Lova Jane Jensen (Snow) of Draper, Utah. He attended Jordan High School and married his high school sweetheart Sheila Fitzgerald in 1953. They had two children Jane Howell and Phil Jensen.
Ray began his work career as a sheet metal worker and worked his way up the ladder to become a Superintendent for Skyline Construction Company based in Utah in the mid sixties. During that time he supervised the building of Kaysville Jr. High, Sunset Junior High and Delta High School in Utah. In Idaho, he supervised the building of a 65,000 square foot office and classroom structure at Ricks College (BYU Idaho), the first Boise Airport concourse and the first phase of Boise State’s concrete stadium. In the early 70’s he was hired by the state of Idaho Public Works Department where he supervised Idaho’s construction projects for the next 20 years. His favorite construction projects for the state were the remodeling of the Idaho State Capitol and the building of the Morrison Center.
In Ray’s younger life he loved golfing. Throughout his life, he loved listening to music. Ray lived in La Grande, Oregon the last 8 years of his life where he enjoyed the outdoors and his friends at the Grande Ronde Retirement Center. In La Grande he lived to count wild animals and take rides or go four-wheeling in the mountains. Most of all, he loved to make people laugh and tell everyone how good they looked today. He will be missed by his family, his friends and his caregivers. May he rest in peace.
He was preceded in death by his wife Sheila and his granddaughter Vangie Turner. He is survived by Jane and Jim Howell, Phil and Binna Jensen, Rachel Turner, Cassie Vandenburgh, Justin Jensen and Dillon Jensen.
