Ralph Smith, 93, of Upton, died Friday evening, August 10, 2012 in Beaumont Nursing Center in Northbridge after a period of declining health. He was the husband of Barbara H. (Wheeler) Smith and the late Geraldine (Salisbury) Smith, who died in 1969.
Mr. Smith was born in Northbridge and was a 1937 graduate of Northbridge High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II who had lived in Upton for more than 70 years. A toolmaker at Whitin Machine Works in Whitinsville for 30 years, he then worked as a maintenance machinist at Dennison Mfg. in Framingham for 20 years before retiring in 1986. He was a member of Franklin Lodge, AF & AM, in Grafton.
In addition to his wife of 40 years, he leaves two sons, Robert Smith of Northbridge and David Smith of Los Angeles, CA; three stepsons, David Obara of Millbury, Michael Obara of Leominster, and Carl Obara of Charlton; two grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
