Ralph E. Harfert, 70, of Three Oaks, Michigan died Friday night, September 3, 2010 at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital, Michigan City, Indiana. Ralph was born May 14, 1940 in New Troy, Michigan to Albert and Minnie (Trapp) Harfert. He lettered in baseball, basketball, football and track at New Troy High School, before graduating in 1959. Ralph served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Weechik American Legion Post 518, New Troy, and from 1968 until 2010, he held the office of Commander more than 20 times.

He enjoyed spending time at the Legion taking part in fraternal activities and socializing with his friends. On September 6, 1969 he married Gloria Stark in Baroda, Michigan.Ralph was a member of the Carpenter’s Union, and for 32 years he was a general contractor, working for himself as the owner of Harfert Construction Company. He loved being a grandpa and absolutely adored his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria; children, Rick (Deanna) Harfert of LaPorte, Indiana; Michele (Cochise) Harding of Three Oaks and Tony (Jessica) Harfert of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida; grandchildren, Devin, Heidi, Grayson, Brett, Nicholas and Keith; sister, Ida (Bill) Galbreath of Stevensville, Michigan; brother Duane (Betty) Harfert of Sawyer; sister-in-law Arlene Harfert of Sawyer, Michigan; and his mother-in-law Charlotte Stark of Sawyer. He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law Robert Stark; grandson, Robert; and his brother, Pete Harfert.
