Mr. Raleigh Peniston Coggin, Sr., age 82, gently crossed over into heaven on April 11th, a beautiful Saturday afternoon. His earthly life began on September 26, 1932. He was born into the marriage of Jerry Milus and Zelma Hammock Coggin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son and namesake Raleigh Peniston Coggin, Jr. His favorite song had always been “When We All Get to Heaven” and he was surely putting new meaning to that truth as he was reunited with his family. Raleigh was a man in motion. He grew up loving football, baseball and hard work. He was passionate about his heating and air-conditioning business and was intensely loyal to his coworkers who helped him give the highest level of customer satisfaction. In his private life he was the consummate husband, father and grandfather and cherished the fact that he shared his life with a family that meant so much to him. His life skills were built of the bedrock of his faith in a never failing God. For over 50 years he led the singing at Jones Chapel United Methodist Church. He was also known to pick up a guitar and sing a song or two for no other reason than the fact that he really loved singing and playing. Raleigh loved his country and what it stood for. All those years he was working to provide for his family, he also made time to be a part of The National Guard. He retired from that service in April of 1968 as a Master Sergeant. He is survived by his wife, Sybil Dukes Coggin. His surviving children are Tony (and Susan) Coggin, Jeffre (and Amy) Coggin. He was the proud grandfather to Christopher Coggin, Dustin Coggin and his fiancé Lillian Duron, Jeffrey (and Janell) Taylor. His great grandchildren include Landen Coggin, Layla Coggin and Jackson Taylor. Also surviving is his sister Joyce Coggin Casper.
