Rachelle D. Howell, “Poochie”, departed this life at the age of 58 on Friday, October 24, 2014 at Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park, MD. She was born on October 28, 1955 in Washington, D.C. She was the daughter of Middleton L. Russell and the late Ellen M. Russell. She attended public schools in Washington, D.C. and Maryland, graduating from Friendly High School in Friendly, Maryland.
Rachelle worked for 33 years for the federal government in the Department of Education, retiring in May 2008. You knew the important things in her life because family pictures and pets adorned her office. She loved her cats, especially “Jagger” who brought her a lot of joy. One of her former co-workers nick-named her, “Pretty in Pink”, her favorite color.
Rachelle had a quiet and gentle soul, however, she could respond vigorously, if necessary. She had a lot of quirky sayings that are cherished by family and friends. She loved to watch TV and a broken television was a family 911 emergency that had to be remedied immediately. She was an avid on-line shopper, personally known by UPS and FedEx delivery persons.
She leaves to cherish her memory: father, Middleton L. Russell (Marjorie); two devoted sons, Steven L. Dorsey (Marylene) and Tremayne M. Dorsey, four grandchildren: Alexis, Savaughn, Angelo and Quentin. She is also survived by three sisters: Tawana Clark (David), Zona Johnson (Jay), and Rozalyn Russell, our devoted Aunt Lorraine Hill, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
