Rachel Nan Matheson Plyler, 82, of Troutman, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Gordon Hospice House.

She was born on January 8, 1935 in Iredell County to the late Guy Matheson and Edrie Norton Matheson.

Rachel was a graduate of Troutman High School and Kings Business College in Charlotte. She was very athletic and played basketball in her younger years. She worked as a bookkeeper for several local businesses, including Dr. Griffin’s office in Troutman. She loved to play bridge with her friends of the Troutman Bridge Club. She enjoyed gardening, taking hiking trips with her husband, Pete Plyler, and loved to spend time at Maple Hill Cottage at Lake Toxaway, NC. She was also known for working at the polls in the Troutman elections.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Money and Mary Hilderbrand.

Rachel is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Pete Plyler; sons, Jamie (Isabelle) Plyler, Marty (Leslie) Plyler, and Patrick (Erin) Plyler; daughter, Nan (Jim) Plyler Williams; sister, Billy Jo Powell and nine grandchildren, Ashley Plyler, Emile Plyler, Tori Plyler, Emma Plyler, Matheson Williams, Mack Williams, Sam Williams, Carson Plyler and Caroline Plyler. Her memory will be cherished by all.
