Rachel Leona Lowe Norton, 89, of Springfield, IL and formerly of Virginia and Jacksonville, IL and Glendale, AZ died Thursday, May 3, 2012 at the home of her nephew in Springfield.

She was born June 3, 1922 in rural Virginia, IL; the daughter of Richard Colson and Gertrude Ovilette Caywood Lowe. She married Harold Lewis Norton on November 15, 1959 in Phoenix, AZ and he preceded her in death on March 26, 2005.

She is survived by a son, Ken Lee Norton and his partner, Larry McGlothlin of Sunbury, OH; two nephews, Ronald Winner of Springfield with whom she has made her home since September of 2009 and Martin Borman (wife, Kathy) of Jacksonville; a niece, Vauhnee Borman Baptist of Charleston; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Clara Elizabeth Lowe, Ida Bernice Lowe Winner, and Josephine Lucille Lowe Borman.

Mrs. Norton was a 1939 graduate of Virginia High School and was employed as a beautician at Jo-Lo Beauty Shop in Jacksonville and several beauty shops in the Glendale and Phoenix, AZ area. Rachel had a wonderful sense of humor, thoroughly enjoyed life in Arizona, and never met a cat she did not love.
