R. LaVar Marsh of Boise, Idaho, passed away peacefully at home on October 24, 2022 at the age of 90. LaVar was born December 27, 1931, in Boise, to proud parents Mary Gladys Garlick and William Ralph Marsh.

LaVar enjoyed a happy and rewarding childhood growing up near Camel’s Back Park. LaVar is proud of his Eagle Scout rank he earned as a young man in the Boy Scouts of America, being the first to get this award in his family. He also earned one of the highest awards in Explorer Scouting as well. At Boise High School he was on the rifle team and won honors statewide, competing in national events as well. He was the Lieutenant Colonel of the ROTC and was appointed to attend West Point. However due to complications from Rheumatic Fever as a young boy, which damaged his heart, he was not able to attend West Point.

LaVar met the love of his life Carolyn Ririe while attending Brigham Young University. They first confessed and decided what their love meant for them on a warm summer night, bathed in a full moon at Bright Angel Point Grand Canyon. They were married June 14, 1954, in the Salt Lake City, Utah, LDS Temple. One of LaVar’s and Carolyn’s greatest joys in life was their family, raising 6 children as an Eternal Family. LaVar and Carolyn were married for 68 years.

LaVar rejoiced in life and lived it with fervor in all its worthy pursuits. LaVar attended Boise Junior College (where he was a Student Body Officer), Brigham Young University, and holds both a Bachelor of Science in Law and a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Utah. He is a member of the State and Federal Bar in Utah, Idaho, and California. He is also admitted to the Supreme Court of the United States. LaVar had a love of this great Country and the Constitution.

LaVar is preceded in death by his wife, the love of his life Carolyn Ririe Marsh; his parents Gladys and Ralph Marsh; his siblings Lavon Marsh Rivers, Eileen Marsh Lewis, and Don Marsh; and grandson Kyle Tuttle.
