Pollyanna Prather Hammond, known to all as “Polly”, age 87, of Newnan died July 8, 2008 at her residence. A native of Newnan, she was born January 16, 1921, the daughter of the late William Edwin Prather and Pollye Bridges Prather McKoon. She received her education in the Newnan Public Schools and later attended Georgia State College for Women at Milledgeville and Draughn’s Business School.

She was a life-long member of Newnan’s Central Baptist Church. Polly loved the activities that occupied the mind and was an avid reader and duplicate bridge player and discovered her talents in painting and loved to sing. Life was a joy for her and her friends were all taken by (or the victims of) her disarming sense of humor. Polly’s life found it’s essence in her family and nothing was more rewarding than cooking for family gatherings. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Harold Smith Hammond; her children, Bill and his wife Chris Hammond of Smyrna, Merry Todd and her husband Pat of Newnan, Roxie Clark and her husband Danny of Newnan, Cris Hammond and his wife Krissi of Dacula. There are 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
