Mrs. Phyllis “Phil” Louise Freeburg, 92, of Newnan died on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at Piedmont Newnan Hospital.
Mrs. Freeburg was born November 13, 1916 in Duesquesne, PA. She was the daughter of the late Ira & Ida Shaffer. She was a graduate of Grace Martin Secretary School and worked in the Draft Board office in Duesquene, PA during WWII. After the war, she married the late Ragnar “Rags” L. Freeburg, Jr. They had three sons, Eric, Bud, and Philip.
In 1950, they moved from Duesquane, PA to Wisconsin where her husband was employed with the Marathon Corporation. In 1958, they moved to Newnan where Rags Freeburg served as the plant manager of Marathon Corporation. While in Newnan, Phil Freeburg became active in the community as a pink lady at Newnan Hospital, Girl Scout leader, a Sunday school teacher, and a member of the Newnan Presbyterian Church.
In 1972, Phil and Rags moved back to Wisconsin with the American Can Company where Rags worked until his retirement in 1978. In 1993, they moved back to Newnan to enjoy their retirement in a warmer climate.
Rags Freeburg died in June 2001. Mrs. Phil Freeburg is survived by three sons, Eric W. Freeburg & his wife Beth of Farmington, MO, Ragnar “Bud” Freeburg, III & his wife Becky of Newnan, Philip Freeburg & his wife Ann of Madison, Wis; grandchildren, Brian, Mary, Joanna, Jennie, Rachel, Anna, and David.
