Phyllis Jean Pyle (Goldsmith) DeRight entered this world on August 25, 1929, in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Ray Davis and Flora Alice (Dunn) Pyle and rejoined the love of her life on May 12, 2022. Her parents divorced when she was young and her mother remarried Marlon Richard Goldsmith with Phyllis taking his last name.

Phyllis spent her youth between Tulsa, OK and a farm in Vicksburg, MI. She was the valedictorian of the Class of ’47 at Vicksburg High School. On June 25, 1949, she married Stanley Robert DeRight and they enjoyed nearly 62 years of marriage until his passing in 2011. Stan and Phyllis lived in Kalamazoo, MI; Oceanside, CA; Tyler, TX; and Rochester, MI, before moving back to Kalamazoo in 2006. Phyllis spent many years working for the Rochester Community Schools, retiring as the Administrative Assistant to the Director of Special Education. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, reading, bowling and the Detroit Tigers.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant son, Daniel; brother, Richard. She is survived by her three children, Tom (Cindy) DeRight of Grand Blanc, Linda (Larry) Lueth of Portage, and Nancy (Carl) Murdock of Coldwater; six grandchildren, Amanda (Jarret) DeRight, Dianna (Mike) Zychowski, Brian (Alexandria) Lueth, Brad (Amy) Lueth, Brett (Kim) Murdock, and Lauren (Jerrod) Hetrick; ten great-grandchildren, Ethan, Tyler, Noah, Cole, Jordyn, Brayden, Rowan, Amberlyn, Logan, Lincoln and two more due in June and July; as well as several nieces and nephews.
